Mad Dog Mud Bog - Benefit for Brett Banasiewicz!
Sunday October 14th, 2012 was the date set for the Indiana version of a Benefit to raise money for Brett Banasiewicz. Brett was seriously injured in a BMX crash on August 23, 2012 in Virigina Beach during practice for a Vans Competition.
Brett was having a stellar year after winning some big contests, Including a 1st ever Dew Cup in BMX Park just a few weeks earlier. Brett was in a comma for almost 3 weeks in a hospital in Virginia. He was moved to a rehab facility in Atlanta shortly after to begin the long process of getting himself back to his old self. We decided to help our Brett and his family by showing support and throwing a Benefit to help out with the seemingly never-ending amount of hospital bills.
After weeks of moving dirt and tuning up the 4910 Trails in Fort Wayne, IN to prepare for the benefit good ol' Mother Nature decided to take over with showers and T-Storms the night before the benefit. Brad Geisleman, John Baron, Kris Kenny, Chris Gerber, Chad Newman, myself, and too many others to count put in countless hours to ensure the trails were rolling strong. We didn't actually get much BMX riding in this particular day, every single time we thought we were going to be able to start riding a slight little bit of rain popped up. We were able to get some ridin' in through-out the day, but around 4 O'clock she let loose with a massive 2 minute long downpour that completely drenched the trails. (seriously about 1/2 inch in 2 minutes)
One of the best things about BMX and the people involved in it are true and good people. Everyone stuck around all day long to show support for Brett! I couldn't ask for a better group of troopers to come out and support this amazing young man. We had a Medical team provided by Trish Bare Grounds of Bare Sports Essentials on site to help out in the event of any incidents.
All in all we raised $2,000 US Dollars for Brett, I am stoked that everyone came out, over 40 Sponsors kicked in products etc. to help out Brett. I am glad to be part of such an awesome group of people and want everyone to keep Brett in their prayers and keep sending positive vibes to Brett!
